Chris in the Winter Cup, Lake Garda
20 February 2008

The Winter Cup was attended by over 300 top karters from afar away as the US, Brazil, Russia and China, in fact one of Chris's team mates had travelled from Japan to compete. In the KF3 group which is the top level of junior karting in the world which Chris was entered in, there was well over 100 entrants, after a couple of days of practice Chris qualified 82nd, but as his Team Director said " Don't be disappointed these are the best in the world."

The following days saw a number of heats, but because of his poor qualifying position Chris generally started towards the back and had to learn quickly, and he did, each heat consisted of 34 drivers and Chris had a number of good finish's 13th, 16th etc. Improving as the days went on, Chris managed to avoid elimination  in the later part of the week and qualified for the
finals on the last day , Sunday 17th, needing to come in the top 17 of the semi final in the morning to progress through to the Grand Final in the afternoon ,after sitting 12th for much of the race Chris went into a corner too hard stalled the kart, restarted it but lost 5 places, and then was involved in a bad accident two laps from the end while trying to regain his early position, he climbed out from under his opponents kart that was on top of him , pulled it to one side, restarted his own kart and continued, but it was too late and the chance to make the Grand Final had gone.
